What is my
IP address?
Your public IP, the network behind it, and the tools to make sense of both. Clear answers start here.
curl https://thisismyip.comWorks in your terminal too ↗
This is the address this server sees. A VPN, proxy, or mobile network can change it.

What does my public IP tell me?
Your public IP is the address visible to this server. It may belong to your router, mobile provider, VPN, or proxy. Your device can also have a separate private IP address.
IP lookup can suggest your internet provider, country, and city. It does not reveal a reliable street address or identify a person. A VPN can make this estimate appear in a different region.
You may have both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity. This page shows the version used for this request. Use the IPv4 and IPv6 analyzer to understand another address, or check your public IP with curl.
A few things
worth knowing.
IP addresses can be confusing.
They don’t have to be.
Is this my public or private IP address?
The address shown here is the public IP visible to this web server. Your router normally gives devices separate private addresses used only inside your local network.
Can an IP address reveal my exact location?
No. IP geolocation is an estimate that may identify a city, region, or ISP, but it does not provide a reliable home address or identify a specific person.
Why does my public IP change?
Many internet providers assign dynamic addresses that can change after a lease renewal, modem restart, or network change. A static address is usually an optional service.
Does a VPN change the IP websites see?
Usually. When a VPN tunnel is active, websites normally see the VPN exit server address instead of the public address assigned by your internet provider.
